Urogynecologic Conditions Treated

Urinary Incontinence (Leakage of urine)

The accidental release of urine is caused by weak muscles in the lower urinary tract or problems in the nerves that control urination.

Frequency of Urination / Urgency of Urination

The passing of urine more often than normal, often feels like the sudden compelling urge to urinate or bladder discomfort.

Frequent Urination At Night (Nocturia)

Often caused by urinary tract infection, can feel like frequent burning sensations and require urgent urination throughout the night.

Uterine Prolapse (Dropped uterus)

Occurs when the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments are stretched and eventually weakened, no longer about to provide support for the uterus. This allows the uterus to slip down / protrude.

Cystocele (Dropped bladder through the vagina)

This appears as a bulge of the bladder into the vagina and can occur due to childbirth, heavy lifting, general pelvic muscle strain, and other issues.

Rectocele Dropped rectum through the vagina)

The tissue wall separating the rectum and vagina weakens, causing a collapse and drop into the vagina. Can result from processes that place any pressure on the tissue wall.

Recurrent UTIs (Urinary tract infections)

Continually reinfections occur due to persistent bacteria presence (such as E. coli), or in some cases, cystitis.

Interstitial Cystitis (Painful bladder syndrome)

This is a chronic condition of the bladder that can often exhibit similar symptoms to urinary tract infection (commonly mistaken for UTI). Symptoms include bladder pain, pelvic pressure / pain,a and frequent urination.

Vaginal Vault Prolapse after Hysterectomy

This condition commonly occurs following a hysterectomy, as the uterus is no longer supporting the top of the vagina, allowing it to fall forward.

Urethral Diverticulum

This most commonly results from the enlargement of obstructed periurethral glands, with the urethra outpouching into the vaginal wall.

Vaginal Cysts & Masses

A cyst / mass is a closed sac that occurs on or under the lining of the vagina. Symptoms may include discomfort during sex or other minor disruptions.

Fistula (Vesicovaginal Fistula)

This condition causes fistulous tracts to extend between the person’s bladder and vagina, resulting in the continuous discharge of urine into the vaginal vault.

Fistula (Rectovaginal Fistula)

An abnormal connection between a person’s rectum and vagina, which can cause bowel contents to leak through the vagina.

Fecal Incontinence

The inability to control bowel movements, which often results in feces leaking involuntarily from a person.

Pelvic Pain

This pain can often be caused by bacteria infection, including chlamydia or gonorrhea. Symptoms may include lower abdomen pain, pelvis pain, fever, and vaginal bleeding.
